Regain the Frontal Plane
by Carson Boddicker on Mar 22nd, 2010
As I was working with a runner recently, she made a salient observation from her running career. Athletes are more durable and better performers than runners. Last week, I argued a few points for why I believe runners need more of a multi-lateral approach is that too often runners cease being athletes and at that point trouble arises. We know that asymmetries can lead to a great deal of dysfunctional issues from the ground up and that asym...Read More » Tags

Returning to Run Post SH
by Carson Boddicker on Apr 10th, 2009
In returning to high level training following sports hernia rehabilitation, it is necessary to be incredibly patient and cautious. What I've noted in working with my post SH athletes is that easy running tends to be relatively safe, but as the velocity of training increases, so does the incidence or relapse. As I don't like to lay a bunch of volume down with inadequate hip flexion, I typically suggest keeping continuous runs relatively short an...Read More » Tags

Stretching the Right Way. Rectus Femoris…
by Carson Boddicker on Jan 27th, 2009
In deciding what stretches are necessary, we must first look at the functional anatomy of each muscle and the function in each individual. Typically with runners you'll see incredibly tight low range hip flexors and relatively inactive hip flexors that function above 90 degrees due to the typical high volumes of low amplitude running. As such, we spend a little more time opening up the low range flexors, especially rectus femoris, which subsequen...Read More » Tags

Sports Hernia and the Runner
by Carson Boddicker on Jan 23rd, 2009
In my career, one thing has stood in the way of me being able to train consistently and race well. It's caused me to miss more days of training and caused more frustration for myself, coaches, and teammates than anything else I've experienced. There is nothing worse than getting through a winter, ready to step onto the track and run some personal bests, only to have the rug swept from underneath you sending you crashing to the floor along wit...Read More » Tags
