In every person’s life we have certain influences.  Some of these influences are positive while others are negative.  Take a minute to write down two lists.  In one column, write down habits, things, or people who help push you toward things about which you are most passionate.  In the other, write down the habits, things, or people who hold you back from the things that you’d like to accomplish.

Once done, take a step back and look at the lists.  What can be eliminated or added to your life that will help you in pursuit of your goals?

Are you trying to improve posture yet spend twelve hours a day hunched over in front of a computer screen?  Are you trying to get more exercise time each week, yet still watch four hours of television nightly?  Does your spouse support your mission to chase down new personal bests?  Have you the time or resources to prepare your meals in advance?  Do you have the available knowledge or expertise to reach your desired outcomes?

Whether we like it or not, some of our behaviors clearly do not match those for our desired outcomes.  If you are truly passionate about reaching your goals, it is essential to free yourself of the negative behaviors and to maximize your positive behaviors and support system.

Best regards,
