Things to Read this Weekend
by Carson Boddicker on Aug 28th, 2010
As weekends are a fine time to take advantage of all that is available to sharpen your coaching or clinical axe, here are a few reads from the past several weeks that I'd most definitely suggest looking into. The Throw-From Below: Hip Mechanics Dictate Overhead Motion--Though I don't work extensively with overhead athletes as I once did, I think this article is well worth your time. In it, the author discusses a number of critical lower body...Read More » Tags

On Certifications…
by Carson Boddicker on Jun 22nd, 2010
In one of my summer courses we have recently become involved in an extensive discussion as to the value of certifications and licensing as many other "professionals" are forced to go through in their respective industries. You cannot sit for the APTA exam without a DPT curriculum under your belt, you won't be getting an MD without plenty of classroom and lab hours, and you can't become an accountant without a bachelors. I tend to thing this i...Read More » Tags

Self Development
by Carson Boddicker on Jun 18th, 2010
In keeping with current trends, today I'll share with you all a few books that I have really enjoyed that I think can be of value to anyone, in any profession that involves working and communicating well with people. While there are hundreds of good ones out there, there are only a few that I really found to be "excellent" in their own right. Many of which you've probably heard about at this stage, and with good reason. 1. How to Win Frie...Read More » Tags

A review of Perform Better Phoenix
by Carson Boddicker on Apr 19th, 2010
As usual, attending seminars is one of the highlights of my year. There are few other places where you get to spend a day with a number of bright minds and talk shop. As usual, this year's Perform Better Phoenix did not disappoint. Presentations were given by Michael Boyle, Alwyn Cosgrove, Todd Durkin, and Gray Cook and I picked some good information from each. 1. Michael Boyle: Preparing to Workout Coach Boyle's presentation, as al...Read More » Tags

Friday Musings Again
by Carson Boddicker on Apr 16th, 2010
Just a few thoughts to let you chew on over the weekend. 1. Tonight I'm headed down to Phoenix to attend Perform Better's one day seminar, learn a thing or two, meet some old friends, and find some new friends. There is no question that it will be a great day as the presenters are nothing short of excellent (Boyle, Durkin, Cook, Cosgrove) and will be giving presentations that I've yet to see. Better than that, however, is the opportunity...Read More » Tags

A few cool educational resources…
by Carson Boddicker on Dec 10th, 2009
The internet is an awesome place for the exchange of ideas and for continued professional development. Over my career, I've come across a ton of great resources to make my life easier, and myself a better professional. Books: AbeBooks--A great resource for finding used books. You can find some great deals on used text books that are astronomically priced elsewhere. Google Books--See full texts and limited previews of a dancing pletho...Read More » Tags

A few thoughts…
by Carson Boddicker on Sep 4th, 2009
1. I've spent some time going through Neuromechanics of Human Movement, as I found this quote to be interesting: "…the function of a muscle depends critically on the context in which it is activated." I believe that too often we look at the body in a textbook definition of function. Does the rotator cuff externally rotate the humerus or does it decelerate internal rotation or does it compress the GH joint? Does the piriformis external...Read More » Tags

Podcasts to Hear
by Carson Boddicker on Sep 3rd, 2009
Three great podcasts to check out: The FitCast--Likely the industry leading podcast. Each week there seems to be great new concepts and ideas formulated in all aspects of health and fitness. StrengthCoach.com Podcast--A close second to The FitCast. The beautiful part is that it is dedicated entirely to sport performance. Anthony Renna does a great job. Reality Based Fitness Podcast--Good friends Patrick Ward and Keats Snidemen look...Read More » Tags
